Call for papers. European Symposium. Culture, territories and society in Europe. What is at stake in redefining cultural policies?

May 28th and 29th 2009, Grenoble

The first symposium of a 3-yearly event looking at research in the field of cultural policy in Europe, the Grenoble meeting will seek to promote the works of young European researchers, to allow us to identify new skills and better identify the role of research in the development of a society of knowledge. The Observatory of cultural policies has joined forces with the research laboratory PACTE - CNRS - Grenoble University to organise this meeting which will be an opportunity to debate the contribution of research to public decision-making. The organisation and summary of the conference findings will be provided by recognised European researchers and experts.

Communication proposals are being solicited, focusing on the following themes:

1. The governance of territorial cultural policies in Europe

2. Culture, society and local authorities in Europe: the challenges of sustainable cultural development?

3. Culture, innovation and creative cities

4. The cultural practices of inhabitants, artistic education and mediation

5. Cultural industries, the media and territorial strategies: what political regulation applies?

This call for papers concerns, in particular, young European researchers (those under 40 years will receive preferential treatment from the selection committee). The papers must propose a broad scientific discussion framework. Works which emphasise transdisciplinarity, the comparative dimension and the analysis of specific European territorial contexts will also be much appreciated.

Proposals must be sent by January 31th 2009 at the latest, by e-mail to
