Special Library for Cultural Policy and Copyright

News   28.5.2025

The name of the Special Library on Copyright is changing to the Special Library for Cultural Policy and Copyright. The name change is part of a broader project that began at the start of 2023. As part of the project, the cultural policy collection of the Cultural Policy Research Center Cupore’s library was merged with the collection of the Special Library on Copyright.

The library is jointly managed by the Finnish Copyright Society and Cupore. The new name better reflects the collection, which serves professionals, researchers, decision-makers, students, and others interested in the fields of cultural policy and copyright. The name of the library’s database, CUTE, is derived from a combination of “Cupore” and “tekijänoikeus” (copyright in Finnish).

The Special Library on Copyright was established in 1987 in connection with Teosto, but since 1993 it has operated as part of the Finnish Copyright Society and its subordinate Copyright Institute. The library’s collection includes key Finnish and international literature in the field of copyright.

In terms of cultural policy, the library’s collection is developed based on the needs of Cupore’s researchers and research projects. The core of the collection comes from a unique cultural policy collection of about 5,000 volumes donated in 2012 by the Arts Council of Finland (now the Arts Promotion Centre Finland). It includes literature on the arts and cultural policy of various countries, the professional roles, status, activities, and operational cultures of organizations and cultural sector actors, as well as cultural economics, marketing, sales and export, authorship and its history, cultural sociology, multiculturalism, trade policy, economic policy, public administration, and municipal management.

The library is open to everyone and operates on weekdays, Monday to Friday, by appointment. It is located in Hakaniemi, Helsinki, in connection with Cupore and the Finnish Copyright Society. Please schedule an appointment in advance to borrow materials.
